How we work

Say what you know, and how you know it.

Every claim carries a label

  • Mark’s account what Mark reports from his own work: his account, not independently checked.
  • Observation what we have seen in published evidence.
  • Proposal what we suggest.
  • Hypothesis what we think is true and intend to test.
  • Counterargument the case against.

Sources

No figure without a source. We link to the original where we can, say when we read it, and mark anything we could only check second-hand. If two sources disagree, we show both.

How we use AI

Every piece starts with Mark: his 25 years inside organisations, a recorded interview and his notes, where the ideas are set out. We use AI (mainly Claude, by Anthropic) as a writing and research assistant, and we say so openly.

  • The ideas are Mark’s. They come from his experience, his interview and his notes, and the papers quote them by page.
  • AI helps write them up: it turns that material into clear, well-organised text, makes sure no important point is missed, finds and checks supporting sources, and translates into Spanish.
  • Mark has the last word: he reviews, corrects and approves every piece, and answers for every claim on this site.

The papers are here to be read, challenged and used. They have not been submitted for a degree or to a journal; if that changes, we will follow that institution’s rules on AI.

The notes behind the papers are private, because they mention clients and colleagues. We quote them by page number, so every quotation can be held to its source.

In The Reaction, AI drafts each summary from the item itself; a person approves every one.

Who we are, and our interest

The site is run by Mark Maynard through Mayn Limited. Mark is a founding member of Stratapault, a separate business, which builds organisational twins. That is our conflict of interest, and why every page says so.

Responses

Every paper and article is published for comment and ends with a Respond form, for example on the flagship paper. With your consent, the best responses are published with your name and role, next to our reply.

Corrections

If we get something wrong, tell us: [email protected]. Corrections are dated in each paper’s list of changes.
