The joke
Every job title gone, replaced by three words and two arrows. The most honest CV ever written, and the hardest to explain at a dinner party.
The irony
A job title says who you are and where you sit. It says very little about what you actually produce. Most of us have held a title that meant nothing to anyone outside the building. The arrows are harsher, but they're clearer: what comes in, what you do to it, what goes out.
So what?
Working Paper 1 proposes that the unit that matters is becoming the capability: a piece of work defined by its input, transformation and output, done by a person, software, AI or a mix. On the Periodic Table of Work it's an Element, described by an open card format. The risk is real too. If two people describe the same work differently, the table becomes a list of labels.
Describe your job as input, transformation and output. What gets left out? Tell us in the comments, or respond to the paper.
